Жалость забудешь ты,
Коль не станет вокруг Нищеты,
И вмиг Милосердье умрёт,
Коль Счастлив вдруг станет народ.

5 Боязнь порождает покой,
Себялюбие льётся рекой,
Жестокость, ощерив клыки,
Свивает для жертвы силки,

Являя священный страх
10 И лживые слёзы в глазах;
И вот уже там и тут
Смирения корни ползут,

А над его головой —
Древо Тайны сокрытое мглой,
15 Чьи листья питают тайком
Гусеницу с Мотыльком.

Обмана там зреет плод
Сочный и сладкий, как мёд,
И Ворон чёрный, как страх,
20 В густых гнездится в ветвях.

Все земли пройдя и моря
Это Древо искали вы зря,
О Боги, — ведь ясно одно, —
В Голове Человека оно!
