Он свернулся — беспомощный с виду — В тёмных недрах дрожащего лона, Становясь всё сильнее и твёрже. 5. День за днём, ночь за ночью он рос, Заполняя ей чрево, и вскоре Превратился в могучего Змия, Что шипел и губительным ядом Отравлял ей недужные чресла. 6. Свившись кольцами, сбросил злодей Чешую, и в шипенье змеином Вдруг послышался голос иной, Полный скорби и муки смертельной, И, меняясь в обличье, то рыбой, Становилось, то птицей, то зверем, То, что будет когда—то младенцем, То, что было простым червяком. 7. И в тревоге от мрачных видений Завершили работу Бессмертные, Чтоб в шатре Энитармон—страдалица Разрешилась Дитём Человеческим. 8. 340-342. ...Но, заплакав, она отвернулась, / И, увлекшись жестокой игрой, / Ускользнула... — искусственные слёзы и жестокое заигрывание Энитармон с Лосом показаны на иллюстрации над этим текстом.

344-345. Как твореньем своим и подобьем / Утешается Вечный Пророк... Стивенсон (267) поясняет: «После падения нет нового творения, но тольно повторение. В вечности В вечности любовь — это полное соединение любящих людей (In eternity, love is a complete blending of loving persons): но здесь это любовь Лоса к себе самому в Энитармон — не любовь, но желание направленное вовнутрь себя (not love, but in-turned desire)».

349—365. Гложет чрево ей червь-истязатель... — т. е. Энитармон беременна. Червь — здесь, зародыш человеческий проходит через четыре стадии, принимая вид змия, рыбы, птицы и зверя, символизирующих четыре элемента: огонь, воду, воздух и землю.

372. Когда тень Человека явилась! — т. е. явление, полностью сформированное в падшем мире и неспособное приобщиться к бесконечности. Это "тень" подлинной, бесконечной человечности, которая однако показывает, что падший мир способен самовозобновляться (Стивенсон, 267).
